A LONG TIME AGO IN A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY (aka the mind of George Lucas)…Hello fans, this month we will take a break from Doctor Who as we celebrate my other favourite franchise, Star Wars…continuing with Episode IV: A New Hope (first of the original trilogy)

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

Initially only released as Star Wars, A New Hope was released in 1977 by George Lucas and to this day is considered the benchmark of cinematography in terms of the films use of ground breaking special effects as well as the most influential.

You can’t win Darth, strike me down and I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine – Obi Wan Kennobi

A New Hope

Taking place some nineteen years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, A New Hope follows the story of young Luke Skywalker, a moisture farmer from Tatooine till he joins the Rebel Alliance along with a crazy old hermit, Obi Wan Kennobi, who trains Luke in the mysterious ways of the Force.

After leaving his homeworld behind, Luke, along with the help of two very familiar droids (R2 D2 and C3PO) Obi Wan, Han Solo and his Wookie Co Pilot Chewbacca (fondly known to Han and fans simply as Chewie) sets out to rescue Princess Leia, a rebel leader who has been captured by the evil sith Lord Darth Vader! and taken aboard the dreaded Death Star, a space station the size of a small moon with the firepower to destroy entire planets.

During their daring escape, Obi Wan faces his old padawan Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, for the final time before allowing himself to be cut down by Vaders lightsaber (a jedi/sith weapon) thus passing into the living Force and allowing Luke and his new friends to escape on the Millennium Falcon…!
